Today, June 18, 2025, over 524 thousand Italian students face the first written test of the 2025 Maturity: the Italian essay.

La first try written Italian has always been one of the most important events for students taking the exam Maturity. This year, as per tradition, thousands of high school graduates are faced with the challenge of writing an essay that tests their analytical, reflective, and writing skills. Whether it's a narrative text or a short essay, the Italian essay requires precision, creativity, and mastery of the language.

Let's find out together what the proposed tracks for the Maturity are 2025 and how to best orient yourself to overcome this first crucial stage.

Maturity 2025: the first Italian exam begins

“The wish I make for them, for the and students is, first of all, best wishes for great success in this final exam. Each of them has a wealth that must be discovered and valued. Each of them has an extraordinary strength, has an extraordinary beauty. They just need to be aware of it, face this path with serenity, but also with strong awareness", Education Minister Valditara told RTL 102.5.

The final exams for 524.415 students (511.349 internal and 13.066 external candidates) started this morning at 8:30. Among them, 268.577 come from high schools, 169.682 from technical institutes and 86.156 from professional institutes. The first written test in Italian is identical for all study paths. The topics, chosen by the Ministry of Education and Merit, are seven, divided into three types: 2 text analyses, 3 short essays or newspaper articles and 2 current affairs topics. Students will have a maximum 6 hours to complete the test. For this edition, 13.900 commissions were organized involving a total of 27.698 classes.

Maturity 2025: the first Italian test is underway, here are all the topics revealed

For the first written test of Italian at Maturity 2025, students are faced with tracks of great cultural importance and topicality. Students have the opportunity to choose between seven different tracks, organized into three main categories: Type A, which includes text analysis; Type B, dedicated to the argumentative text or short essay; and Type C, reserved for the topic of current affairs. This subdivision allows students to orient themselves towards the test that best enhances their ability to understand, critically reflect and write on literary, historical, social or contemporary topics.

In the analysis of the text, the choices fall on two emblematic works: a reflection by Pier Paolo Pasolini taken from “Appendix I” of his diary (1943-1944) and an excerpt from the famous novel The Leopard di Giuseppe Tomasi of Lampedusa.

Among the proposed tracks, a message of hope and civil commitment signed by Judge Paolo also stands out. Purse, symbol of the fight against the mafia: 'Young people, my hope'.

As for the argumentative text, the topics covered range from history to scientific studies, up to the most recent social phenomena. The tracks include an excerpt from The Thirties, the Decade That Shook the World di Piers Brandon, a text by Richard Macconi su Compared, word of the year for Treccani, an in-depth analysis of Telmo Pievani on the concept of celebrity in a geological era, and an analysis of Anna Meldolesi and Chiara Lalli on indignation as the driving force of social networks.
