In Gjader, a former site of the Albanian Air Force, now renovated, a Reception Center was inaugurated by Italy, ready to receive at least 400 migrants in its initial phase. The recent agreement between Prime Ministers Giorgia Meloni and Edi Rama has provided for two areas dedicated to the reception of male migrants, not vulnerable and coming from nations considered safe, with the aim of a rapid repatriation as soon as the evaluation of asylum applications is completed.
Hotspot for the identification of migrants
A hotspot has been set up at the port of Shengjin, dedicated to the identification of migrants rescued exclusively by Italian ships. After registering their information, the migrants will be moved to Gjader, about 20 kilometers inland. Three facilities have been set up here: a center for asylum seekers with 880 places, a Center for Repatriation Detention (CPR) with 144 places and a penitentiary with 20 places.
