New revelations about the Meredith Kercher murder: a new suspect, but the case remains closed.

Almost twenty years after one of the most notorious and controversial crimes in Italian news, the case of themurder di Meredith Kercher has once again rekindled public attention. Despite the definitive sentences and the now consolidated judicial truths, the memory of that tragic event and the investigations that followed continue to raise questions and reflections.

On the evening between 1st and 2nd November 2007, Perugia was shocked by a crime which would soon make headlines around the world. Meredith Kercher, twenty-one-year-old English student on Erasmus, came found lifeless of property which she shared with some roommates on Via della Pergola. The crime scene, marked by violence and mystery, paved the way for a complex and controversial investigation, followed step by step by intense international media attention.

One of the protagonists of the investigation speaks again, Julian Mignini.former public prosecutor, who coordinated the investigation, gave an interview to The print in which he claims to have received, from a source believed to be reliable, the name of a person who has never emerged before in the investigation. According to Mignini, this individual could have played a role in the murder and he would have fled abroad a few days after the crime.

The magistrate reported that he had reported the information to the Perugia Prosecutor's Office, which however – as reported by ANSA – he would not intend to reopen the case, which has remained defined in the now definitive sentences.
