Milan, April 23 (Adnkronos) – "April 25 is a day that must belong to the people, to the memory of the Resistance, to those who still fight against oppression, occupation and imperialism. For this reason we will take to the streets of Milan, alongside the partisans and in the wake of the struggle that they have traced". Thus begins the appeal that the Young Palestinians of Italy, the Arab-Palestinian Democratic Union and the Palestinian Community of Lombardy are spreading on social media on the eve of Liberation Day, which will see them as protagonists in the procession in Milan.
"It is time to restore April 25th to its political, radical, popular meaning. For this reason we strongly demand to open the procession, together with the partisans and those who carry on their memory today. Our presence at the head of the procession is not a symbolic request, but a precise political position: we want and must be at the front, as a living and current expression of the Resistance, because that struggle is not over and continues today also in Palestine. Any other placement would be an attempt to silence the true meaning of this day", reads the message in which the meeting is scheduled for 12 at the Palestro metro stop, next to the Porta Venezia gardens where the demonstration will start in the early afternoon.
"Today more than ever, we consider it unacceptable that in the anti-fascist march there is also space for figures and groups that represent Zionism, colonialism and war. There can be no room, on a day like today, for those who support the oppression of the Palestinian people, for those who legitimize bombings, genocide and occupation. There can be no room for warmongers, for those who use the word 'Resistance' only when it is convenient and trample on it every day in reality" it reads. "For us, today, the Palestinian resistance is the heir and the most authentic incarnation of the partisan spirit. (…) Just as the Italian partisans fought against Nazi-fascism, today the Palestinians are fighting against an oppression that has easily recognizable names, allies and weapons. (…) Let us make the voice of true anti-fascism heard loud and clear, which does not bow to the dictates of institutional politics, which does not accept seeing the memory of the Resistance emptied and co-opted for partisan ends".
