San Francisco, California, June 13 (askanews) – A U.S. federal judge has ordered Donald Trump to return control of the California National Guard to the state of California, saying the president’s decision to deploy it to protest-hit Los Angeles, over the objections of state governor Gavin Newsom, was “illegal.”
After the ruling, Newsom said, “The National Guard will be reassigned to what it was doing before Donald Trump requisitioned it.”
Justice Charles Breyer suspended the order until 12 p.m. local time (21 p.m. EDT) Friday, and the White House almost immediately launched an appeal in a pivotal case defining the limits of executive power that could go all the way to the Supreme Court.
