There are two gunshot wounds found on the body of Michael Mastropietro, the 59-year-old from Carosino who died after a firefight with the police immediately after themurder of the brigadier of the police Charles LegrottaglieThis is what emerges from theautopsy performed today, Tuesday 17 June, by the coroner Roberto Vaglio.
A bullet hit the man in the chest, with an entry wound in the back, and would have passed through theleft hemithorax causing a serious pulmonary hemorrhage; the other grazed the left arm. Mastropietro he did not die instantly, but from slow and progressive bleeding, which occurred during the escape on foot through the countryside of Francavilla and Grottaglie last June 12th.
The investigations
At the moment it has not been possible to determine with certainty from which direction the kill shot, whether from behind or from the front: further investigations will be needed. But no signs of a struggle were detected.
THEautopsy examination would still exclude a close distance, a detail that could be favorable for the two officers investigated, defended by lawyers Antonio Maria La Scala and Giorgio Carta. The final report of the coroner will be filed within 60 days. In the meantime, the prosecutor Francesco Ciardo is evaluating further investigations, including a ballistics report, to clarify the dynamics of the collision.
