Rome, October 10 (Adnkronos Salute) – "Every ten minutes in Italy, a citizen dies from sudden cardiac death, over 40 cases a year, often in apparently healthy people. To address this emergency, Italian scientific societies have joined forces in the Cardiosecurity project, an initiative that integrates regulatory, clinical, and population-based aspects to improve the prevention and management of sudden cardiac death."

Furio Colivicchi, vice president of Fism, the Federation of Italian Medical-Scientific Societies, and past president of ANMCO, said this while attending the 2025 General Assembly of the National Association of Hospital Cardiologists, held at the Ministry of Health.

"We need widespread education," Colivicchi added, "starting in schools and driving license programs, to train citizens in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and enable timely intervention. The Italian Federation of Cardiology (FISM), which brings together approximately 250 Italian scientific societies, is coordinating the work of professionals and scientists working on this front. The more than 6.500 cardiologists at the National Association of Cardiologists (ANMCO) are and will be key players in the prevention and management of patients at risk of sudden cardiac arrest."
