Democratic Party mobilization against RAI

The Democratic Party takes to the streets to ask for more information on the referendums

The right to information

Il Democratic party has called a mobilization for next Monday, May 19th at , inviting citizens to unite in front of the regional offices of Rai. This initiative was born in response to what the party defines as a information blackout regarding the referendums scheduled for June 8 and 9. The party's official note stresses the importance of the right to information, a fundamental principle in a democracy.

According to the PD, the public radio and television service has the duty to guarantee complete and correct information, especially on the occasion of events of national importance such as referendums.

The current situation

The data provided by the Communications Regulatory Authority (Agcom) highlight a worrying situation: Rai has dedicated only the 0,62% of its information space to the referendum consultations. This data has been interpreted by the PD as a clear sign of disinterest and lack of respect towards citizens, who have the right to be adequately informed on issues that concern their future. The mobilization therefore aims to draw attention to this problem and to urge a change of direction by the public service.

An invitation to participate

The Democratic Party has called on all citizens to actively participate in the demonstration. The invitation is extended to activists, regional and provincial secretaries, as well as parliamentarians, to create a united front against what is perceived as an attack on democracy and the right to information. The mobilization represents an opportunity for citizens to make their voices heard and to ask for fairer and more transparent information. At a time when communication is fundamental, the PD intends to be the spokesperson for a collective request for greater responsibility on the part of public media.
