Adnkronos Rome, November 13 (Adnkronos) – "Today in the European Parliament we witnessed yet another betrayal of citizens' trust: the right, in order to do a favor to multinationals, prefers to ally itself with the far right and leave behind all those companies that had invested in sustainability and due diligence. The amendments to the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, in fact, significantly reduce the number of companies involved, water down climate transition plans, and undermine corporate civil liability."
This was stated by the MEPs of the Alliance of the Greens and the Left after this morning's plenary vote on the Omnibus package.
"Our vote," they continue, "was a staunchly negative one, because this package promises simplification while doing the exact opposite: a slap in the face to those who innovated to defend the environment and human rights. For large companies, however, sustainability remains optional."
"We do not intend to endorse a plan that betrays workers by undermining an essential tool for combating delocalization to countries that fail to meet social or environmental standards. These are all blows to the EU's ability to assert itself as a pioneer in the international economic and trade landscape," they conclude.
