An event of historic significance
The funeral of Pope Francis was a crucial moment for the Church and for the faithful around the world. St. Peter's Square, packed with people, welcomed dignitaries and citizens in an atmosphere of deep emotion. The police commissioner of Rome, Roberto Massucci, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the operation, highlighting how every detail had been carefully taken care of.
An imposing safety device
To ensure safety during the funeral, an extraordinary security plan was implemented. St. Peter's Square was guarded by an impressive deployment of law enforcement, with over four thousand men and women in the field, including more than a thousand dedicated to the protection of foreign delegations. The plan included five security areas in the historic center, with particular attention to the funeral procession that passed through the streets of Rome. The presence of drones and specialized units ensured constant monitoring of the situation, while metal detectors controlled the access of the faithful.
An extraordinary influx of faithful
Since the early hours of the morning, a river of faithful headed towards the basilica, reaching the maximum capacity of fifty thousand people. Those who were unable to access the square were able to follow the ceremony on giant screens located in various points of the city. Security was further strengthened with clearing of the area and the establishment of a no-fly zone over Rome. Sharpshooters and bomb disposal experts monitored every aspect of the event, ensuring that the farewell to Pope Francis took place without incident. The presence of military and emergency vehicles helped create an atmosphere of protection and serenity.
