Conditions of boarding schools in Kenya
This is not uncommon; in fact, in Kenya it is common for parents to send their children to live and study in a boarding school far from home.
In the balance, in addition to the deaths we have spoken about, there were several injured: at least 10 people are hospitalized with very serious burns.
Investigations are underway to understand what caused the flames. Authorities are working on site to secure the area.
The country's colleges are the subject of constant criticism for the severe conditions both in study and in life, of the students. Over the years there have been arson attacks, started by them, to protest all this.
The most serious case occurred in 2001, when more than 60 pupils died in a school in the south-east of Nairobi. It is not clear whether in this case too, the flames were of malicious origin, the investigations will establish it exactly.
