Grignetta, the two missing climbers found lifeless: they were in a gully
Late this afternoon, rescuers found Cristian Mauri, 48 years old from Vimercate, and Paolo Bellazzi, the same age as Cambiago, the two mountaineers missing since Saturday on Grignetta.
Their corpi were discovered in Caimi gully, in the same area where on Sunday evening the firefighters had detected the signal of a cell phone, belonging to one of the two. This result was also made possible thanks to the use of the Recco device, used for the recovery of people following avalanches.
The causes of the tragedy remain to be clarified: it is not yet certain whether the two were crashed or died of hypothermia after getting lost in the storm that hit them while they were trying to return to the valley.
The complex ones recovery operations are currently underway, with rescuers braving difficult conditions to recover the bodies. Difficult terrain and adverse weather conditions are further complicating the work of rescue teams.
Who were the two missing climbers?
Christian Mauri e Paul Bellazzi lived in Vimercate and Cambiago, two municipalities in the province of Monza and Brianza. Born in 1976, the two were colleagues at a local farm and companions on numerous outings in Mountains.
