Inside cumulonimbus clouds, typical of thunderstorms, the air rises at a crazy speed, causing the water droplets to freeze over and over again, until they become those grains of ice that fall down heavily. After so much heat, the atmosphere is like a pressure cooker ready to explode, and these extreme thunderstorms are the result of all that accumulated energy.
Weather Alert: Falling Temperatures, Hail and Risk of Violent Storms
On Tuesday 17 and Wednesday 18 June the “cold drop” will move southwards. It will touch Marche, Abruzzo and the central-southern Apennines, extending to the plains of Tuscany, Lazio and Campania. Then it will be the turn of the South, with Sicily and Calabria under fire especially on Thursday 19 June.
