A week after a similar accident occurred in Turkey and involving two hot air balloons, a further episode occurred in Brazil. A hot air balloon with 21 people on board caught fire before falling and crashing to the ground.
The impact occurred against a health center in Praia Grande, in the state of Santa Catarina. It cannot be ruled out, but an investigation will have to ascertain, that some people threw themselves into the void in an attempt to escape the fire. The Civil Police spoke with the pilot, who survived, hypothesizing that the fire broke out in the basket of the balloon, as a consequence of the use of an oxy-acetylene torch.
