Dramatic accident in the skies of Brazil. A hot air balloon crashed to the ground after catching fire while it was in the air with 21 people on board. Numerous rescuers intervened on the spot to take the people involved to the hospital but they also had to detect the presence of numerous deceased. A week after a similar accident occurred in Turkey and involving two hot air balloons, a further episode occurred in Brazil. A hot air balloon with 21 people on board caught fire before falling and crashing to the ground.
The impact occurred against a health center in Praia Grande, in the state of Santa Catarina. The accident was attended by the Governor Jorginho Mello with a post on X in which he confirmed the number of people on board, explaining that 13 of them survived with injuries, some of them serious, and were taken to hospital. Some videos have been released on the web showing the burning hot air balloon losing altitude very quickly. It cannot be ruled out, but an investigation will have to ascertain, that some people threw themselves into the void in an attempt to escape the fire. The Civil Police spoke with the pilot, who survived, hypothesizing that the fire broke out in the basket of the balloon, as a consequence of the use of an oxy-acetylene torch.
