Rome, October 6 - (Adnkronos) – "Francesca Albanese is the UN rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories: she holds a non-partisan institutional role of international standing, and her presence in Genoa makes us proud, especially in light of the large popular turnout in the pro-Palestinian and pro-Flottila demonstrations. She will bear credible witness to what is happening in the Gaza Strip, where over 60 civilian deaths have occurred in the last two years, mostly children, women, and the elderly.
It is an insult to accuse her of being divisive: we are talking about one of the main promoters of the Middle East peace process, who should be supported by our entire political class." This is what the Liguria regional secretariat, the Genoa provincial secretariat, the Liguria regional council group, and the Genoa municipal group of the party said in a statement from AVS.
Francesca Albanese represents everyone, not just one side. None of us wants to justify the perpetrators of the October 7 massacre; indeed, our condemnation has been firm from the outset, without hesitation, just as none of us supports Hamas and its acts of violence against civilians. But a clear and tangible commitment from European governments, including the Italian one, is needed to stop the genocide by all means permitted by law. For this reason, we reiterate our proposal to boycott Israel economically and commercially as long as it continues its violence against Palestinians. We also urge a halt to arms sales and a clear stance from the European Union against the genocide. Finally, we join the Global Sumud Flotilla's request to open a permanent humanitarian channel," the statement concludes.
