Berlin, November 15 (Adnkronos) – "Municipalities are becoming laboratories of innovation, confronting environmental challenges. Faced with issues such as pollution, traffic, waste, including energy, as well as depopulation and the risk of desertification of services for smaller towns, creative solutions are emerging. These solutions benefit the national and supranational levels.

Strengthening their role, supporting networks between local administrations, and enhancing dialogue between cities and citizens is, therefore, far-sighted." This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, during the ceremony in Berlin for the awarding of the "Presidents' Prize for Municipal Cooperation between Italy and Germany," together with his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

"I would therefore like to thank all the German and Italian municipalities that submitted projects for this Award," added the Head of State, "and to extend my congratulations to the mayors of the winning municipalities, expressing my appreciation for their contribution to strengthening the ties between our countries, our institutions, and our citizens."
