Rome, November 12 (Adnkronos) – "I never tire of repeating that municipalities are the front line of our democracy and that citizens identify with them. Being a barometer of civic participation and, therefore, of trust in the institutions of the Republic, it is imperative to ensure that they reflect the will of the people, especially at a time of worrying decline in the exercise of the vote.
I would like to reiterate to you that we cannot settle for a low-intensity democracy. This deficiency could in no way be filled by technical mechanisms, which could, in some cases, aggravate it: representativeness is another matter. The reduction in voter turnout is a challenge for those who believe in the value of democratic citizen participation." This was stated by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, in his speech to the ANCI Assembly.
