Microsoft pledges to protect Europeans' data

Milan, April 30 (askanews) – Microsoft is committed to strengthening its presence in Europe and protecting the data of European citizens in a context of growing geopolitical tension. “What we want Europeans to know is that they can count on us,” said Microsoft President Brad Smith, who spoke from Brussels to reassure Europe at a time when transatlantic relations are at an all-time low and with some of the big US tech companies that have moved very close to Donald Trump's administration.

“As a company, we believe in a future where Europe, North America and the world, in many ways, can benefit from cross-border business, and certainly from American technology, serving everyone in Europe.”

“Today we are committing that if any government anywhere in the world issues an order requiring Microsoft to suspend or cease operations and support for Europe from our data centers, we will go to court. We will use every legal avenue to challenge such an order,” Smith concluded.
