Rome, October 14 (Adnkronos) – "Do not proceed with any automatic renewals of the 2017 Memorandum of Understanding with Libya, immediately suspending all forms of technical, material, and operational cooperation that would result in the forced return of people to Libyan territory." This is according to the motion presented to the Chamber of Deputies by Democratic Party Secretary Elly Schlein and signed by Nicola Fratoianni, Maria Elena Boschi, Riccardo Magi, and Angelo Bonelli, among others.

The motion commits the government, among other things, to "adopt initiatives within its jurisdiction aimed at completely reviewing the bilateral agreements with Libya on migration control; to "promote, at European level, the establishment of a civilian search and rescue mission in the central Mediterranean, modeled on Operation Mare Nostrum"; to "end support for Libyan entities implicated in human rights violations, excluding such entities from any form of financial, logistical, or training assistance"; and to "take concrete action to protect the lives and human rights of refugees and migrants in Libya."
