A new approach to urban security
Milan is undertaking an important initiative to improve safety in its neighborhoods, strengthening the role of the neighborhood watchman. This strategy, desired by the new commander of the local police, Gianluca Mirabelli, includes new hires that will come into force starting from the end of November. The goal is to guarantee a constant and visible presence of the police force on the territory, thus contributing to a safer environment for citizens.
Details of the new surveillance service
With the introduction of neighborhood police, Milan will have five cast iron cars available for each Municipality during each shift. This translates into a total of ten cars per day for each neighborhood, allowing for a coverage of 90 police officers distributed across the city's nine neighborhoods. This constant presence not only aims to prevent acts of vandalism and crime, but also to create a relationship of trust between citizens and law enforcement.
Impact on the community and perception of safety
Strengthening neighborhood watch is a significant step towards greater urban safety. Milanese citizens will benefit from a faster response to emergencies and more direct interaction with the police, who will be able to address local issues more effectively. Furthermore, the visibility of neighborhood watch could help improve the perception of safety among residents, making Milan a more liveable and welcoming city.
