Rome, November 12 (Adnkronos) – "For a company like Mondelēz – a key player in the Italian and global food landscape, with iconic brands loved by millions of consumers – it is essential to invest in agricultural supply chains and lead the transition to more sustainable models," Alessandra Mangiarotti, Sustainability Specialist for Mondelēz International Group in Italy, told Adnkronos.
"One figure speaks for itself: over 70% of our environmental impact comes from the production of the ingredients we use.
Achieving the Net Zero goal by 2050 therefore requires a strong focus on programs capable of supporting the evolution of our supply chains towards more resilient, responsible, and regenerative solutions. In this context, Harmony—our pioneering European program dedicated to the wheat supply chain—is a strategic lever. Based on a pact with local farmers, it provides incentives linked to compliance with the best practices contained in the Harmony Charter, co-developed with farmers themselves, NGOs, agroecological experts, and technicians. By the end of 2024, the program had more than 1.200 farmers in seven countries, 59.000 hectares of cultivated land, and flowered areas for biodiversity that are home to 24 million bees and 30 butterfly species.
Today, he emphasizes, "thanks to Harmony Ambition 2030, we are committed to supporting the introduction of regenerative agriculture techniques: a holistic approach aimed at restoring the ecosystem's natural biorhythm, promoting soil health and nutrient density. The goal is ambitious: by 2030, 100% of the wheat volume needed to produce our biscuits in Europe will be grown in compliance with the Harmony Regenerative Charter."
