Pisa, June 13 (askanews) – The inauguration ceremony of the new Rector Nicola Vitiello, who took office on May 8, took place in the Aula Magna of the Scuola Superiore Sant'Anna in Pisa. Vitiello, full professor of bioengineering, thus becomes the youngest rector in Italy at 41 years of age. The event was an opportunity to present the programmatic lines that will guide the mandate that has just begun, for a School that does not limit itself to observing the world, but is committed to transforming it with scientific rigor and social impact.
“The results of experimental sciences - observes Vitiello - are sometimes more evident, they are more easily communicated, but those in the social sciences can be equally important, in my opinion even more so, I am thinking of economics, political science, jurisprudence, where the school has top-level scientists and scientific knowledge can be made available to the country”
Vitiello has long emphasized the work done by the previous Rector Sabina Nuti. Roberto Garofoli, president of the section of the Council of State, spoke at the Ceremony, speaking about the studies of excellence in the context of the fragilities of the country. "These are dated and historical fragilities that, however, in an international and global scenario in great change and unfortunately deterioration, risk becoming more acute and seeing the effects amplified, in particular on our ability to compete and also on our national security".
Among the objectives of the new Rector are making scholarships even more attractive, giving more autonomy to young researchers, strengthening the School in international rankings and the establishment of the Sant'Anna Politics & Economics Forum.
