Rome, October 16 (Adnkronos) – "The government is turning the budget law into a barroom brawl between deputy prime ministers, disrespectful of the country's social conditions. First, they lie to Parliament by approving a public finance report with figures different from those included in the Budget Planning Document sent to Brussels."
Thus the presidents of the Democratic Party parliamentary groups Francesco Boccia and Chiara Braga.
The budget, which confirms resource cuts and cuts to healthcare, education, and transportation needs, is increased to €18 billion, assuming €4 billion in extra profits for 2026, which would rise to €11 billion over the three-year period. And not even half a day later, a brawl breaks out within the government.
We would have expected respect for Parliament, with the budget being sent immediately, but instead Tajani and Salvini are arguing in public before it's even sent, as if the budget law were their own business, effectively becoming a battleground for personal conflict. Salvini claims that "the banks will happily contribute 5 billion," while Tajani reiterated last week that "a tax on extra profits is Soviet stuff" and today emphasizes that it will never happen. What 18 billion is Giorgetti talking about? Where are they? Opposing views that demonstrate only one thing: they're not thinking about the country, but about their own interests. It's unacceptable that the state budget, which affects the real lives of Italians, with insufficient pensions, privatized healthcare, families and businesses in difficulty, is being used to settling scores within the government. It's time to end the brawl within the government. Giorgia Meloni should send the budget to Parliament and agree to a discussion with the opposition for the good of the country.
