Words Pope Francis Had Never Said Before: The Letter to Corriere della Sera

"Human fragility has the power to make us more lucid with respect to what lasts and what passes, to what makes us live and what kills. Perhaps this is why we so often tend to deny limits and avoid fragile and wounded people: they have the power to question the direction we have chosen, as individuals and as communities".

The Pope expressed his desire to encourage the director and all those who dedicate their work and their intelligence to information, through communication tools that now unite the world in real time. He stressed the importance of words, explaining that they are never just words, but facts that build human environments. He added that words can connect or divide, serve the truth or make use of it.

"We must disarm words, to disarm minds and disarm the Earth. There is a great need for reflection, for calm, for a sense of complexity”, the Holy Father underlines in the long letter.

The Pontiff added that, while war continues to devastate communities and the environment without offering solutions to conflicts, diplomacy and international organizations need to new life and credibility. He also stated that religions can draw on the spirituality of peoples to rekindle the desire for brotherhood and justice, as well as the hope for peace. He concluded that all this requires commitment, work, silence and words.

“Let us feel united in this effort, which heavenly Grace will not cease to inspire and accompany”he concluded.
