Palermo, 6 Feb. (Adnkronos) – "The sector of collection, transport, management, recovery and disposal of hazardous and non-hazardous special waste in Sicily, starting with landfills, has shown, and in some respects still shows, profiles of significant infiltration by organized crime". This is the complaint of the President of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani, during the hearing before the National Ecomafia Commission. "As, moreover, noted by the same Commission in the inspections carried out in some Sicilian Provinces, the influences of crime in the sector and the inertia towards the modernization of the waste system in Sicily are at the root of the many shortcomings and delays that we are forced to face and resolve", he adds.
