Rome, November 12 (Adnkronos) – "Giorgia Meloni is mocking mayors. She says the 2026 budget is the first without cuts, forgetting that her previous budgets have already stolen €10.7 billion from local authorities in current expenditure and investments, including over €800 million less in 2026, €1,2 billion in 2027, and €1,4 billion in 2028.
"Her calculator broke again," said Democratic Party secretary Elly Schlein.
"Not to mention that the government has removed the rent and arrears fund from previous governments, and hasn't invested a cent in housing and transportation, so mayors will be forced to raise fares or reduce service schedules. Instead of self-celebrating, the prime minister should publicly apologize and truly begin to reverse this disastrous trend. This deadly escalation of cuts severely weakens the ability of municipalities, provinces, and metropolitan cities to guarantee services and carry out essential public works."
