Switzerland, peace summit in Ukraine: concluded without unanimity

No unanimity at the summit: the peace declaration was not signed by more than a tenth of the participants

The peace summit organized by the Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky in the Swiss town of Bürgenstock did not achieve the desired result: it was not achieved unanimity is preferably used for medium-high pace in the war in Ukraine at the summit, thirteen countries did not join.

Brazil, India and South Africa are not among the signatories of the declaration joint. Armenia, Bahrain, Indonesia, Colombia, Libya, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Suriname, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates and China also did not join the summit's conclusions, while Russia was not invited, for a total of 13 countries.

The Austrian Chancellor Karl Newhammer he had already announced in the morning that the declaration would probably not be signed by everyone. The head of the Austrian government, however, noted that this did not affect the common fundamental attitude:

“These are diplomatic niceties like certain words. Because of this I don't worry if everyone doesn't sign now", he added, quoted by the German agency Dpa.

The final communiqué of the summit

The United Nations Charter, including the principles of respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of all States, can and will serve as the basis for achieving comprehensive, just and lasting peace in Ukraine: this is the message reported in the final communiqué on a framework for peace in Ukraine approved by around eighty out of 92 countries participating in the Buergenstock summit, in central Switzerland.  

However, the meeting does not claim to be decisive, but seeks the path to peace: on the second day of the summit i participants they are already discussing and committing themselves, among other things, to three aspects: exports di wheat exchange market from Ukraine, of nuclear safety and issues humanitarian.

The final communiqué of the summit also denounces the militarization of food security and also calls for Ukraine to have full sovereign control over the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant, occupied by the Russians since the beginning of the invasion. Furthermore, commitment regarding all the prisoners of war is must be released by exchange:

"All illegally deported and displaced Ukrainian children, and all other illegally detained Ukrainian civilians, must be repatriated to Ukraine.”
