Damascus, Dec. 3 (Adnkronos) – U.S. forces destroyed truck-mounted rocket launchers, a tank and mortars in eastern Syria, which posed a “clear and imminent threat to American forces and coalition forces,” said U.S. Department of Defense spokesman General Pat Ryder, referring to the international coalition fighting the Islamic State group (ISIS) in the region. “We continue to investigate who used these weapons, but we must be aware that there are pro-Iranian groups in the area that have carried out attacks” in the past, Ryder added.
The United States has deployed about 2.500 troops in Iraq and 900 in Syria as part of an international coalition created in 2014 to fight the jihadists of the Islamic State group, which had taken control of entire swathes of Syrian and Iraqi territory before being defeated in 2019.
