Rome, October 14 (Adnkronos) – "Filiera Tabacchicola Italiana" (Italian Tobacco Supply Chain) has been established, a new organization that is part of the broader Filiera Italia project, a collaborative model between Italian agricultural production, represented by Coldiretti, industry, and distribution to protect and promote Made in Italy agri-food products. Cesare Trippella (Director of EU Value Chain & External Engagement at Philip Morris Italia) will lead "Filiera Tabacchicola Italiana" and has been appointed president.

The organization's establishment was announced at the 23rd International Agriculture and Food Forum, promoted by Coldiretti. Filiera Tabacchicola Italiana is the result of an agreement to create €2,2 billion in added value.

"I thank Coldiretti and Filiera Italia for the trust placed in me with this appointment," said Cesare Trippella, president of Filiera Tabacchicola Italiana. "It is an honor," he continued, "to represent a sector that combines tradition and the ability to innovate. We will work to provide continuity and economic strength to farmers, supporting the transition to increasingly innovative and sustainable models." The establishment of "Filiera Tabacchicola Italiana," which includes approximately one thousand agricultural businesses, aims to promote innovation and strengthen the sector's international competitiveness. This commitment consolidates Italy's role as the European Union's leading tobacco producer.

"The tobacco sector represents a virtuous model of collaboration between agriculture and industry," said Luigi Scordamaglia, CEO of Filiera Italia. "The supply chain agreement between Coldiretti and Philip Morris, launched in 2011 and recently renewed until 2034, guarantees continuity, investment, and long-term growth prospects. This agreement goes beyond simply defining purchasing volumes, but also actively promotes digital innovation, environmental sustainability, and the profitability of agricultural businesses." "We are proud to welcome this experience into Filiera Italia," added Scordamaglia, "because it represents a concrete example of how synergies between agriculture and industry can generate value for the entire country and offer a model that can be replicated in other sectors." The announcement was made today in the presence of Patrizio Giacomo La Pietra, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty, and Forestry.

Since the early 2000s, Philip Morris Italia has developed an innovative, vertically integrated supply chain model, which today represents a benchmark nationally and internationally. Since 2011, the company has signed a series of supply chain agreements with the Ministry of Agriculture and Coldiretti aimed at improving commercial predictability and competitiveness in the Italian tobacco industry, promoting production practices that are sensitive to environmental and social impact, in line with the parties' shared commitments. These multi-year agreements, recently renewed with an unprecedented ten-year timeframe, have generated total investments in the agricultural sector totaling over €3 billion. This includes not only investments, but also innovation, environmental and digital sustainability, and training to foster generational turnover.
