Rome, November 14 (Adnkronos) – The fourth edition of the Master's program "Digitalization of the Electricity System for the Energy Transition," promoted by Terna in collaboration with the Universities of Cagliari, Palermo, and Salerno, as part of the Tyrrhenian Lab project, opens today. The Master's program, which has been extended for an additional two years, began at the three participating universities: in Palermo, the presentations were given by Terna's Chairman, Igor De Biasio; Terna's Director of Strategy, Digital, and Sustainability, Francesco Salerni; and the University Rector, Prof.

Massimo Midiri; in Salerno, Terna's Director of Grid Development and Dispatching Strategies, as well as President and Scientific Coordinator of the Tyrrhenian Lab, Francesco Del Pizzo, and the Rector of the University, Prof. Virgilio D'Antonio; in Cagliari, Terna's Director of Human Resources, Daniele Amati, Terna's Director of Engineering and Project Implementation, Maria Rosaria Guarniere, and the Deputy Rector of the University, Prof. Gianni Fenu. "The Tyrrhenian Lab is more than just an educational project: it is a concrete investment in our country's future. With the fourth edition of the Master's program, we renew our commitment to training new generations of highly qualified professionals capable of managing the energy and digital transformation of the Italian electricity system," said Giuseppina Di Foggia, CEO and General Manager of Terna. "The hundreds of applications for the Master's program confirm the great interest in this initiative. We want to offer young graduates not only an opportunity for professional growth, but also the chance to actively contribute to the development of their communities. We are convinced that the energy transition is a challenge that can be overcome together, with skill and commitment. The Tyrrhenian Lab demonstrates how Terna intends to be a leader in this change," concluded Terna's CEO.

For the fourth year running, the Tyrrhenian Lab has confirmed its position as a training center of excellence, ensuring the development of advanced skills related to digitalization and the energy transition. The project is closely linked to the Tyrrhenian Link, the approximately 970-kilometer-long undersea electrical connection that will connect Campania, Sicily, and Sardinia. This project will increase energy transmission capacity, contributing to the safety, adequacy, and flexibility of the national electricity transmission grid.

The Tyrrhenian Lab's Master's program, consisting of 11 modules and a final project work for a total of 60 credits, has attracted constant and growing interest from students. This is partly due to the talent attraction and acquisition campaign launched by the national electricity grid operator to identify and engage qualified young people interested in participating in the Master's program. The program has grown from 170 applications in the first edition to approximately 400 this year.

Of those who applied, 57 were selected to participate in the program, which, once completed, will lead to hiring by Terna in the three regions involved, thus countering the abandonment of Southern Italy for professional reasons.

The high number of applications also allows us to profile the young candidates, who are predominantly under 30 and have STEM (Stem) studies, particularly in Energy and Nuclear Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Management Engineering. There has also been a significant increase in female applicants, up 27% compared to the previous edition.
