The document includes measures for the training of a “legion Ukraine” in Poland and sets out plans for shooting down missiles and drones Russians heading towards Polish airspace.

At the end of June, Tusk revealed that he would meet Zelensky ahead of the NATO summit in Washington, scheduled for tomorrow, but it was only revealed this morning that the meeting would take place in Warsaw.

“Whoever defends Ukraine today also defends himself”

The Polish leader praised the “perseverance and courage” of the Ukrainian counterpart and promised that “will always be able to count on us in the fight for a safe Ukraine and a safe Europe“. Under the agreement, Warsaw is considering supplying others Mig-29 fighter, after having already delivered ten to Kiev. “The heroic defense of Ukraine is also the defense of the entire free world” continued Tusk “Russia's attack on Ukraine is also an attack on Ukraine's friends and neighbors. If this war ended badly, it would also end badly for Poland and for the entire Western world".

The support of the United States and Japan

Poland is the latest in a series of countries to sign security agreements with Ukraine, pledging to maintain a long-term support for the defense of Kiev against Russian aggression. Last month, the United States and Japan also joined such agreements. “Every word in this document has a meaning and these words will have practical consequences” commented Tusk, promising that Poland “will continue to persuade our allies to make the path to EU and NATO membership as rapid as possible for Ukraine".
