(In)tolerant hospitality: “allergy friendly farms” are born in Alto Adige

For those who suffer from common allergies, choosing the right destination is important

The best accommodation options in South Tyrol for allergy sufferers.

For some years now it has become automatic practice to ask people – even for a simple invitation to lunch or dinner at home – if they have any particular allergies or food intolerances to report.
In an era in which health has become central to everyone's daily life, restaurants have naturally adapted to these standards and accommodation facilities are doing the same, transforming the service into what can be defined as a truly tailored approach.
In this sense, customization has become an added value in Alto Adige, because this is exactly the direction that the Masi del Gallo Rosso, the association that promotes the authenticity of South Tyrolean agritourism, are moving in.

No more carpets and no more heavy curtains that collect dust

These are mountain farms that are committed to ensuring a safe stay for those who suffer from respiratory or food allergies. How? In environments with the reduction of triggers to a minimum and therefore no carpets or heavy curtains that collect dust, furnishings only in natural wood, no pets to avoid hair and use of certified cleaning products. At the table, however, the attention is even higher: breakfasts and meals prepared with selected and often self-produced ingredients, taking into account any celiac intolerances and therefore gluten free but also lactose free and with the elimination of nuts such as hazelnuts. In short: a welcome to the guest truly focused on well-being and with that family attention towards those who have to deal with restrictions that are not always easy to manage.

Safe, healthy and peaceful stays

The “Masi Allergy Friendly” project was born from the collaboration between the Gallo Rosso association and specialists in the medical and environmental sectors, with the aim of offering safe and peaceful stays to allergy sufferers. There are currently over 30 certified South Tyrolean masi, distributed across various valleys – from Val Pusteria to Val d'Ultimo – all selected according to rigorous criteria ranging from the quality of the internal air to the management of spaces, up to the food offered. Environments where you can breathe without worries, eat without anxiety, sleep relaxed with the awareness of being in a friendly environment. It goes without saying that being immersed in enchanting landscapes, these masi offer experiences in contact with regenerating nature: walks in the woods, workshops with medicinal herbs, small organic gardens with vegetables grown without pesticides, where fresh and genuine products contribute to the well-being of both the farming family and the guests. Furthermore, thanks to the high-altitude position and therefore the optimal air you breathe, as well as careful hygiene, a healthy living climate is ensured all-round.

Three addresses of allergy-friendly (but beware: not pet friendly) Masi in Alto Adige

il Krahbichlhof in Predoi (the first Health Village in South Tyrol at 1600 meters, has 1 apartment for 2/4 people and a holiday home for 2/6 people. It is located near the Health Trail, with easy walks in the woods and splendid views. The Health Trail starts from the Predoi Climate Center and passes in front of the miners' village, the oil mill and the Santa Rebecca tunnel; from there, it leads to the waterfall, where it is very healthy to stop because the negative ions in the air stimulate the immune system and reduce the frequency of asthma or allergy attacks in people who suffer from them. In addition, the Krahbichlhof has the farm's own spring water, completely untreated, low in minerals and particularly compatible with those who suffer from neurodermatitis.

Il Bruggerhof in Braies (1200 meters above sea level) can accommodate guests in 4 apartments for 4/6 people, all furnished without heavy curtains or carpets. In the entrance area there is the Stube made of Swiss pine, a wood that has a positive effect on health because it significantly reduces the heartbeat, with a pleasant relaxing effect that promotes sleep. Swiss pine also keeps harmful insects such as moths and mosquitoes away. At the Bruggerhof no animals are allowed in the apartments; in addition, an "anti-stress" room has been created, with furnishings that promote healthy and deep sleep, thanks to special lights and devices, a panacea for allergy sufferers, because the immune system becomes stronger when sleeping deeply.

THEhuberhof in San Candido (1100 meters above sea level) has 4 apartments of different types, which can accommodate from 2 to 6 people, where pets are not allowed and the furnishings are suitable for people with allergies. The structure also has no architectural barriers and the farm is dedicated to livestock breeding.
