Young man injured in assault in Reggio Emilia

A 26-year-old Egyptian man shot in the face by a panicked assailant

A scary afternoon in Reggio Emilia

Yesterday afternoon, the tranquility of Reggio Emilia was shaken by an episode of violence that left the community in shock. A 26-year-old young man of Egyptian origin was injured in the face with a shard of glass by a man who, according to initial reconstructions, seemed to be in the grip of an attack of madness.

The accident occurred around 15.30 pm in Piazzale Marconi, near the train station, a place of passage and meeting for many citizens.

The dynamics of aggression

According to the testimonies collected, the attacker, who may have been using alcohol or drugs, began to create havoc on Viale IV Novembre, where he engaged in a fight with a motorist. After causing panic among passers-by, he headed toward a group of people in front of the station, threatening them and brandishing a piece of glass. The victim, who was hit in the face, was immediately rescued and transported to the Arcispedale Santa Maria Nuova, where he underwent surgery for the serious injuries he sustained.

Investigations ongoing

The police, in particular the Carabinieri of the mobile radio unit, are currently investigating to reconstruct the exact dynamics of the facts and identify the person responsible for the attack. The authorities have already started a series of interrogations and collected testimonies from those who were nearby at the time of the accident. The local community is waiting for answers, while the medical staff is carefully monitoring the conditions of the injured young man, who remains under observation.
