An unexpected storm
Rome was hit by a violent downpour that brought the city to its knees, causing significant disruption to traffic and public transport. The main roads were flooded, making mobility difficult for citizens. Local authorities reported that many roads were flooded, especially in the southern area of the capital, creating a picture of chaos and confusion.
Accidents and transport crisis
In addition to the flooded streets, there were also numerous road accidents. Cars were stuck in several areas, especially in the historic center, where traffic became unbearable. Passengers on public transport, already struggling due to a strike, experienced an ordeal. The situation was particularly critical between the Colosseum and the Circus Maximus, where bad weather made it impossible to pass.
Disruptions also for air flights
The bad weather has also affected air travel. An Emirates Boeing 777 arriving in Rome was forced to divert to Ciampino due to adverse weather conditions. Passengers described the landing as a nightmare experience, with severe turbulence causing many to feel unwell. The flight is currently awaiting refueling to return to Fiumicino and complete its journey to Leonardo da Vinci.
