Local authorities take preventive measures against impending bad weather

Orange alert in Sicily

Last Thursday, Sicily received an important communication from the Department of Civil Protection, which issued an orange alert for bad weather. This decision was taken in anticipation of strong thunderstorms that would occur on May 15. Local authorities, in collaboration with the Department, deemed it necessary to adopt preventive measures to ensure the safety of citizens.

School closures and local measures

In response to the alert, the Municipality of Catania issued an ordinance that provides for the closure of schools, public gardens, parks and cemeteries. In Agrigento, schools will also remain closed. In addition, the mayors of Piazza Armerina and Aidone, Nino Cammarata and Anna Maria Raccuglia, have communicated the closure of schools of all levels in their municipalities, underlining the importance of protecting the community from possible risks related to bad weather.

Yellow alert in other regions

Not only Sicily, but also five other Italian regions have been affected by a yellow alert. The regions involved include Molise, Puglia, Basilicata, Calabria and much of Emilia-Romagna. In these areas, adverse weather phenomena are expected, including heavy showers, frequent electrical activity, localized hailstorms and strong gusts of wind. Local authorities are monitoring the situation and invite citizens to pay attention to updates and follow the instructions provided.
