Bike down Murazzi, seriously injured: Mauro Glorioso graduates in medicine

26-year-old Mauro Glorioso, seriously injured in the accident of the Murazzi of Turin in January 2023, fulfilled his dream by graduating in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Turin. Hit by a 20-kilo electric bicycle thrown from above, the accident left him quadriplegic, radically transforming his life.

Despite the severity of his injuries and the months of rehabilitation, Mauro resumed his studies with determination, completing his experimental thesis on the use of CT to evaluate biventricular function in patients suffering from myocardial infarction, which was discussed before the commission chaired by Professor Umberto Ricardi.

"It's a great emotion, it's been a long journey. It's nice to reach your goal, despite everything”, said the young man, recalling the support he received from the university and its professors during the most difficult moments.

Mauro's academic career was also made possible thanks to the collaboration between the University of Turin and the University of Palermo, which allowed him to attend lectures and undertake internships in his hometown. In particular, his internship in Psychiatry under the guidance of Professor Rosa Lo Baido was defined as "a symbol of trust and shared commitment".

In the thesis acknowledgements, Mauro wrote:

"I think this path has been one of the most difficult choices of my life. But I've had the privilege of having special people around me who have helped me overcome all of this. I thank all the professors who have supported me throughout this journey and who They taught me to become a doctor, not only educationally, but above all humanly".

Among friends, colleagues and family members present at the ceremony, the young man celebrated not only the conclusion of an extraordinary academic journey, but also the beginning of a new phase in his life, with plans and ambitions for the future yet to be explored.
