Ercolano, 5 Feb. (Adnkronos) – “The completion of the sewer collector has a complex history: work began in the 90s, but amidst funding bottlenecks and technical difficulties we have finally reached the conclusion of this essential infrastructure. The new collector will allow the wastewater from five municipalities in the area to be conveyed to the Castellammare di Stabia purifier, serving up to 27.500 inhabitants”. This was stated by Sabino De Blasi, president of Gori, the implementing body for the project, during the inauguration ceremony of the sewer collector serving Gragnano, Casola di Napoli, Lettere, Santa Maria la Carità and Castellammare di Stabia.
Also present at the event were the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, representatives of the Ente Idrico Campano and the mayor of Gragnano. The work, financed by the Campania Region with an investment of approximately 7 million euros, will allow the wastewater of 27.540 inhabitants to be conveyed to the Foce Sarno purification plant, eliminating a polluting discharge and contributing significantly to the remediation of the San Marco stream.
"Gori does not stop here - he continues - we are a solid and highly qualified implementing body. In fact, we are completing an additional 8,5 km of sewer network in the same area, allowing another 18 thousand inhabitants to connect to the sewer system. These are fundamental interventions for the territory, as they contribute concretely to the depollution of the Gulf of Naples. On the Sorrento Coast, for example, five municipalities have already obtained the Blue Flag, a recognition that attests to the improvement of environmental quality and offers new opportunities for economic growth for the area".
For President De Blasi, the cleanup of the Sarno River is already a reality: “To date, we have closed 50 discharges into the environment and by this summer the work of completing the decontamination of the Sarno will be completed”.
Gori plays a key role as an implementing body in the Energie per il Sarno program, coordinating and implementing infrastructure interventions that are fundamental for environmental remediation. With over 10 million euros in funding from the Campania Region, it is completing the Gragnano sewerage network, including 8,5 km of new pipes, five lifting plants and a tube bridge over the Vernotico stream. These interventions will eliminate 20 discharges into the environment and purify the wastewater of 18 inhabitants by 2025, thus improving the quality of the waters of the Vernotico and the Valle dei Mulini.
