Ercolano, 5 Feb. (Adnkronos) – “We have a fundamental objective: to make the Gulf of Naples suitable for swimming as part of the Sarno River reclamation project. We are creating a real miracle: obtaining bathing water from Castellammare to the entire Gulf of Naples. A few years ago we started work to solve the problem of a collector that was pouring into a stream reaching the waters of the Gulf. With the completion of this work, we are close to the almost total reclamation of the Gulf of Naples, because these waters are now being conveyed to the Castellammare purifier". These are the words of the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca, during the ceremony for the completion of the sewer collector serving the municipalities of Gragnano, Casola di Napoli, Lettere, Santa Maria la Carità and Castellammare di Stabia. The work, financed by the Campania Region with an investment of 6.935.450,82 euros and carried out by Gori as the implementing body, represents a strategic goal for environmental remediation and the strengthening of the sewer service.

"This is one of the most important strategic interventions we have worked on in recent years - he explains - within a few months, the entire coastal strip of Campania will have bathing waters. This is just one of the many excellent interventions that the Campania Region is carrying out in the environmental sector, in the management of the water cycle and to guarantee the region's water autonomy. However, there is little talk of these fundamental works, because the debate focuses on sterile alliances and controversies. We, however, continue to work seriously to make Campania one of the most advanced regions in Italy from an environmental point of view".

"In truth, we have already started the environmental remediation of the territory in 2015, starting with the removal of almost 5 million eco-bales from Giugliano and other municipalities. From an environmental point of view, Campania is truly at the forefront today", he adds.

On the restoration of the Sarno River, De Luca specifies: "As regards the Sarno River, there have been delays of at least two years compared to the plans, due to the fact that when we started working we found nothing: neither a preliminary project nor a plan for the upper part or for the mouth of the river. We had to start from scratch. Now the work is underway: we have built containment basins at Poggiomarino, where there were continuous floods, and we are also resuming the work in the upper part of the river. I believe that within a year and a half we will be able to complete the entire restoration of the Sarno basin".
