Rome, 5 Feb. (Adnkronos) – A new environmental turning point for the Gulf of Naples, thanks to the commitment of the Campania Region, Ente Idrico Campano and Gori, at the forefront of the construction of another important infrastructure: the sewer collector serving the municipalities of Gragnano, Casola di Napoli, Lettere, Santa Maria la Carità and Castellammare di Stabia has been completed. A project financed by the Campania Region for 6.935.450,82 euros and of which Gori is the implementing body. The interventions, thanks to the construction of an 890-meter box collector, allow the collection of wastewater from 27.540 inhabitants at the Foce Sarno purification plant, with the elimination of the discharge of via Madonna delle Grazie: a significant contribution to the decontamination of the San Marco stream.

“We are celebrating the completion of a project that has been on hold for almost 15 years, which is now one of the strategic works for the complete reclamation of the Gulf of Naples. The primary objective, in fact, is to restore full bathing conditions along the entire regional coastline, from the Campi Flegrei and the Litorale Domizio to Cilento. An ambitious goal, which requires constant and daily commitment. We have already closed further spills in the Pompeii area and work continues on the large-scale remediation project of the Sarno River, with the aim of giving citizens and tourists a clean sea along the entire Gulf of Naples. We will continue in this direction, with targeted interventions to collect wastewater, eliminate sewage spills and strengthen purification plants. It is a major project, which should make us proud,” says the President of the Campania Region, Vincenzo De Luca.

In the Council Chamber, in Gragnano, the point was also made on the other interventions that are affecting the Municipality. In fact, work is underway to complete the sewer network. These works, included in the Energie per il Sarno program and of which Gori is the implementing body, are financed by the Campania Region for over 10 million euros. The works include the construction of 8,5 kilometers of new sewer network and additional strategic infrastructures, including 5 lifting plants and a tube bridge over the Vernotico that will collect the wastewater from the right basin of the stream, eliminating 20 discharges into the environment and marking an important milestone for the environmental remediation of the Vernotico stream and the Valle dei Mulini. Thanks to the construction of the collector and the completion of the Gragnano sewer network, expected by the end of 2025, the wastewater of an additional 18 thousand inhabitants will be brought to purification, with the extension of the sewer service to approximately 5 thousand inhabitants.

"We are starting today from Gragnano, with an important step that is not just a point of arrival: there are many other interventions that are underway and concern the municipalities of Monti Lattari and nearby Castellammare di Stabia. We are protagonists of something very important in terms of sustainability, environment and health. We have eliminated several discharges within the Vernotico torrent and we are recovering what is our lung, that is the Valle dei Mulini. In that area too we will have zero discharges and for me this is a source of pride, a truly very significant result", declares the mayor of Gragnano, Nello D'Auria.

"Today, together with President Vincenzo De Luca and the entire community, we share a new important environmental goal, made possible thanks to the funding of the Campania Region, the synergy between institutions and the commitment of Gori as an implementing body. I would like to thank all our people and the workers involved, whose work has allowed us to achieve this significant goal. Our commitment continues in Gragnano, with the completion of the sewerage network, and extends to numerous municipalities through fundamental interventions for the remediation of the Sarno river and the depollution of the Gulf of Naples. The five Blue Flags assigned to the Sorrento Peninsula and the recent recovery of the Castellammare di Stabia seafront are confirmation that we are on the right path", underlines the president of Gori, Sabino De Blasi.

For the president of the Ente Idrico Campano, Luca Mascolo, "the completion of the sewer collector is a milestone in the protection of our water resources and the quality of life of citizens. This extraordinary result was possible thanks to the synergy between the Ente Idrico Campano, the Campania Region, Gori and local administrations, a virtuous model of collaboration that demonstrates how essential it is to work together for the common good. The Energie per il Sarno program is an unprecedented environmental recovery project: not only are we restoring historically polluted waterways, but we are doing it with structural and concrete interventions, the impact of which is already visible and monitorable in real time by all citizens through the portal energieperilsarno.it".
