Palermo, June 23 (Adnkronos) – Ceremony for the handover of command of the Sicilian Carabinieri Legion. Major General Giuseppe Spina leaves the position after almost two years because he is assigned to Rome, as Director of the Central Directorate for Anti-Drug Services, a body of the Ministry of the Interior that deals with the prevention and repression of illicit drug trafficking, dealing – also at an international level – with the coordination, planning and senior management of the activities carried out by the Police Forces in the specific sector.
During the ceremony, presided over by General Giovanni Truglio, Interregional Commander “Culqualber”, Division General Giuseppe Spina handed over command to the Deputy Commander, Col. Corrado Scattaretico. General Spina, in his speech, recalled how in these two years, under the direction of the District Investigating Magistrates, the Carabinieri of the Sicilian Legion have conducted a total of 68 anti-mafia operations that have led to the arrest of 870 people and the seizure of assets worth 100 million euros. Furthermore, he thanked the women and men of the Sicilian Carabinieri who, with passion and dedication, deal every day with the increasingly multifaceted challenges of security because, what happens around us as well as social changes, determine the emergence of increasingly broad and complex security questions.
The ceremony was attended by the main civil, religious and military authorities of Sicily, all the provincial commanders of the Island as well as a large representation of Carabinieri in service and on leave, including the Carabinieri Forestali.
