Carly also spoke about her decision to have surgery abroad, emphasizing the importance of not having to wait years for a life-changing procedure. “In Italy, they had given me availability in five years, but for me these five years of waiting would have been like living thirty years.” This statement highlights the frustration of many trans people who find themselves having to deal with long waiting lists and bureaucracy to receive the necessary care. Her choice to have surgery abroad represents an act of self-determination and a desire to live authentically.
