Rome, May 13 (Adnkronos) – “We must ensure that the principle of technological neutrality is respected in the concrete application of this directive and that there is not a mandatory transition only towards heat pumps and electrification, but that current boilers can be used with alternative renewable fuels without dismantling the widespread use of gas boilers”.
This was stated by the head of the Fratelli d'Italia delegation, Carlo Fidanza, who spoke at an event on the challenges of the European directive on the energy performance of buildings. The European law, which came into force in 2024 and has been renamed the "Green Homes" directive, establishes a deadline for the gradual elimination of fossil fuel boilers by 2040.
"We also did a lot of work in the last legislature to improve the text of the directive on the environmental performance of buildings, which would otherwise have penalized Italy in particular for its antiquated architectural building heritage," he stressed. "Now we need to take a step further," Fidanza added.
Fratelli d'Italia sides with the study presented today to the European Parliament by Associations Proxigas, Assogas, Federchimica-Assogasliquidi, Assotermica and Utilitalia. "There is an opening on the part of the European Commission, we need to move more quickly in this direction", Fidanza stated. The MEP said he was "cautiously optimistic" that the new Commission "will apply new guidelines" that guarantee incentives for alternative models such as compensation boilers based on the principle of technological neutrality.
