Bologna, March 20 – (Adnkronos) – The export of Italian cosmetics "is a growing sector, from 2022 to 2023 it grew, in fact, by about twenty percentage points and in 2024 it grew by a further 11,4%". Therefore "it is one of those locomotives that have allowed Italian Made in Italy not to be penalized by the declining sectors".
This is what Matteo Zoppas, president of Ice – Agency for the promotion abroad and the internationalization of Italian companies, stated on the occasion of the 56th edition of Cosmoprof Worldwide Bologna, the event dedicated to the cosmetics industry, until March 23 at the Exhibition Center of the Emilian capital. About the event, Zoppas states: “Last year, Cosmoprof brought 250 thousand people, a very important number for a trade fair event like this".
The turnover of the sector "has about 8 billion euros in turnover" a notable figure, "especially if we consider that the total of Made in Italy is equal to 620 billion euros - he underlines - "The contribution of Ice in this context is to ensure that the key subjects for this world arrive in Italy, which this year are 220 imported from 80 countries - explains Zoppas - We reach an agreement with the organizer of this fair, who has contacts with the entrepreneurs, and we intercept the most appropriate demand for them and bring them here. Furthermore, we also bring the Italian entrepreneurs of the sector abroad, to accompany Cosmoprof internationally to the various exhibitions that are held in Asia, America, South Africa".
“Tariffs always slow down,” he points out, referring to those announced by US President Donald Trump, “so there is the fear that they will slow down this locomotive of the cosmetics sector. There is always the hope that these tariffs will not be imposed. It is not clear what direction they are going, it is not clear whether they are just announcements or will actually be there. It is an aspect that is being discussed at a European level, but we can say that we have two interlocutors who are very expert in this type of matter: Minister Antonio Tajani, today in Brussels also to talk about this matter and with a lot of experience at a European level, and a prime minister who has good relations with the US administration. We have good hope, because we have an important tool to be well seated at the table. It will then depend on the responses of our interlocutor. Tariffs must always be avoided because it is better to go in a direction that avoids trade conflict, which we do not need at this time,” he concludes.
