London, October 13 (Adnkronos) – King Charles will welcome German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier to Windsor Castle for a three-day state visit in December. Buckingham Palace has announced that the visit will take place from December 3 to 5, when the monarch will host the first state visit by a German president in 27 years, who will be accompanied by his wife, Elke Büdenbender, at the royal residence.
This is the third state visit organized by Charles and Queen Camilla this year, after welcoming French President Emmanuel Macron in July and US President Donald Trump in September. King Charles visited Germany for his first state visit as king in March 2023, during which he expressed to the Bundestag his "desire to renew the oath of friendship between our nations."
In July, London and Berlin signed a far-reaching friendship treaty, committing to closer security cooperation and mutual assistance in the event of an armed attack. The visit is likely to include a banquet at Windsor Castle and talks with Prime Minister Keir Starmer.
