London, March 18 (Adnkronos) – King Charles and Queen Camilla are celebrating 20 years of marriage this year – on April 9, while they will be in Italy – but, despite this, it seems that they spend "a lot of time apart". Indeed, perhaps the secret of their happiness as a couple is due to the fact that each of them is alone on the weekends.
Camilla retreats to her beloved, "messy" Wiltshire country house without Charles every weekend, according to Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, who said that "the monarchs actually spend a lot of time apart. The Ray Mill house is, if you will, a kind of release from royal life for Camilla. Before she married Charles, she made a pact with him that she would keep the house as a refuge."
"She goes every weekend when she can, and she goes in the summer to spend time with her grandchildren and her children, and it's something that takes her away from the whole royal world and where she goes mostly to relax," the royal expert says. "She doesn't go to Highgrove very often unless she and Charles have other commitments. It's about getting away from the security restrictions and being surrounded by staff and people who do things for you, which, obviously, would be wonderful for all of us. I think for her, she needs somewhere where she can actually relax and just be herself, and walk around in dirty jeans if she wants to, without being constantly monitored."
A source told the Express that Camilla "can sit at the Ray Mill with a big G&T, take her shoes off and watch Coronation Street, which Charles hates." The king, meanwhile, often goes to Highgrove or Sandringham when he is free at weekends, while during the week the pair live together at Clarence House. Camilla's Wiltshire country seat was in the news last week when it was revealed that the king had bought a neighbouring house, which would be used as a wedding venue, for £3 million to protect his wife's privacy.
