Rome, 18 March (Adnkronos) – "It is not a question of spending 800 billion of resources currently existing in the budgets of the Member States, perhaps cutting services to citizens in order to find resources or stopping investing in other chapters. Instead, it is the possibility of resorting to an additional deficit, compared to what is normally foreseen by the Stability Pact.
This is the framework that has been proposed to us, and in this framework Italy will carefully evaluate whether or not to activate the instruments provided for by the Plan. I say this because Italy can boast, in this historical phase, extremely positive economic and financial indicators, a heritage that we do not intend to give up". This was stated by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, in communications to the Senate in view of the next European Council, regarding the European defense plan.
"This is the reason why I believe - the Prime Minister continued - that it is our duty to also propose alternative solutions to the simple creation of new debt. And this is why, with Minister Giorgetti - whom I thank for the important work of these days - we have proposed a mechanism of European public guarantees, coordinated and integrated with national systems, on the model of the one currently used for the InvestEU program, to more effectively mobilize private capital and relaunch investments in the defense sector, in which Italy - let us remember - can boast absolute champions".
