Rome, March 18 (Adnkronos) – "When we proposed renaming the plan using for example the words Defend Europe, we did not raise a simple semantic or nominalistic question, we proposed a question of substance, of merit". And the 800 billion indicated to finance the plan "are neither resources that are taken from other spending chapters nor additional European resources.

Italy has firmly opposed the possibility that a portion of cohesion funds be automatically shifted to defense" and "it is a battle we have won. Italy does not intend to divert a single euro from Cohesion resources". This was stated by the President of the Council, Giorgia Meloni, in communications to the Senate in view of the next European Council.
