Rome, October 11 (Adnkronos) – Commission Vice President Fitto states that 'we don't like tariffs,' but that 'we have reached the best possible agreement.' This statement smacks of surrender and confirms the Meloni government's total political failure. Far from the best possible agreement: we're talking about measures that will put thousands of Italian businesses in difficulty, hit our exports, and put over 180 jobs at risk.
Saying that 'it needs to be implemented and improved' is an elegant way of admitting that we are facing a clear failure and that Italy arrived unprepared and without an independent approach," said Piero De Luca, leader of the Democratic Party group in the European Affairs Committee of the Chamber of Deputies.
"Will the government now have the seriousness to acknowledge the enormous criticality of the tariffs and explain what Meloni did during her trips to America, what strength she gave to von der Leyen's negotiating mandate? We will continue to urge the government to take immediate action with real resources and protective measures for Italian businesses, which are currently completely lacking. There's no need for propaganda on tariffs: we need immediate responses to protect the country's production system."
