In Massafra, on the outskirts of the province of Lecce, there is a mural depicting an Israeli child and a Palestinian child in an embrace. This mural is a reinterpretation of Ricki Rosen's iconic photo. Titled “A Hug for Peace,” this digital smart wall was built on site during the renovation and energy efficiency process of a building. Sponsored by the Puglia Region and the regional agency known as Arca Jonica, the work is located near the Palazzo dello Sport on Via Crispiano and was created by the organization 'Graffiti for Smart City.' Made up of thousands of digital tiles, the wall offers free internet access and becomes a vast digital blackboard that presents audiovisual content to those who photograph it with their phone. “It's a wonderful day because Arca Jonica continues to work to improve the homes built over time that need both humanization and maintenance,” said Michele Emiliano, president of the Puglia Region. The mural comes at an opportune time: Emiliano plans to meet the Palestinian ambassador soon. Emiliano added that the work of the administrator Pascarella of Arca Jonica is very significant, and represents a call for peace between Israel and Palestine, as well as in all conflict zones.
