Rome, June 18 (Adnkronos) – "Fortunately this issue reaches Parliament, even the President of the Senate, who belongs to my party, has greatly facilitated this process and it is right that Parliament legislates and not the individual Regions also because they do not have the competence. I share the positions of those who say that the State must care and cannot abandon the sick, I reflect on the fact that there cannot be a right to suicide, but I hope and believe there can also be room for the voice of consciences.

This issue should not have party boundaries: there is the suffering of people, often terrible, for which there is no hope and no end and therefore I believe that the conscience of people and individual parliamentarians must have a role. Personally I am not certain, I question myself and I hope that the discussion can take place without party or ideological blinkers". Thus the Minister for Relations with Parliament, Luca Ciriani, guest of 'Start' on Sky Tg24, about the law on the end of life.

"These are very delicate issues - the minister reiterates - that deserve great in-depth analysis, I approach them with great respect towards everyone's positions. I fear the risk of trivializing death or suffering that could lead to attitudes of abandonment of those who are ill or those who are ill have the feeling of feeling like a burden for society, for relatives, for friends, but I also face the fact that some people have to face endless and hopeless suffering and politics must also give answers to these requests. I do not have the recipe in my pocket but I believe that Parliament must give a serious, responsible answer, avoiding at least on this the political clash or the electoral clash, because at least on the end of life we should think like people, some Catholics, some without faith, but like people who respect the dignity of other people".

"It's a heartbreaking topic, I don't think anyone can have a definitive and absolute answer, so - concludes Ciriani - let's try to do a good job and give some answers, maybe they won't be definitive, but the fact that we're starting to talk about it is already a good thing".
